Life Energy and Money

Every Sunday from 12:30pm to 6:00pm,  I am at the Inverness Store in Inverness, CA doing Tarot readings for the general public. They stop by for whatnot and barbecued oysters on their trip to Point Reyes National Seashore.

I am trying to decide what to charge.

Tarot cards are a vehicle for me to bring the best of myself to the world. People come to me stuck in situations that bring them suffering. I use my intuition, experience and the cards to help them find new perspectives. This helps them get free.

To do my work most effectively it makes sense to read the cards for as many people as possible. My pricing, then, should allow access for everyone. This brings up the possibility of making my readings free.

There are two problems with this. The first is, people value what they pay for. The second is, I need money.

I think I will charge people based on their own hourly income. For example, if you make $10.00 and hour, your half-hour reading costs $5.00. If you have an annual income of $100,000.00 (that works out to $48.08 per hour), your half-hour reading costs $24.00.

I honestly believe that all jobs are equally important. The hardest jobs are often the lowest paid. I like the idea of being on level ground with my clients. I am trading them oranges for oranges, minutes for minutes. If I calculated time spent working into life energy, we would be exchanging equal numbers of life energy units. That seems fair.

Yes, this would be on the honor system. If you are going to lie about your income to get a deal on a Tarot reading, you really do need a change in perspective. I welcome everyone.

My second idea is to charge a nominal fee like $5.00 and give people a list of things I need. They can pick something from the list to give me in exchange for the reading. This could make it easy on everyone. Most people have an abundance of something and trading it cost them very little. If that something is something I happen to need or want, it is of value to me. Everybody wins.

I think I’ll start with the first idea and work on the list for the second idea.
